Anthony J. Archer passed peacefully from this life on June 24, 2021 after a brief illness. His loved ones were with him. He was 87 years old. Anthony was born in New Rochelle, NY and was raised in Kearny, NJ. He retired in 1972 after proudly serving 20 years in the United States Military. He was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. He worked for the Prince William County Planning Office in Virginia, where he received many accolades for developing a unified mapping system for the county. After leaving Prince William county in 1982, he moved to Cape Coral, FL. and took a position as Director for the Lee County Planning Office. Anthony loved bowling, international travel, good food, bourbon and a good cigar while sitting on his deck watching the sunset. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Amy Arcidiacono and his youngest daughter, Amy Powell. He leaves behind a sister, Janet Pangborn of Temple Terrace, FL, a beloved ex-wife, Glenda Archer of Ruther Glen, VA, and three children; Jill Rutherford (Rick), Port Bolivar, TX, Lynn Myers (Chuck) Ruskin, FL and Jeffrey Archer, Richmond, VA. He was very proud of his 10 grandchildren, Tiffany, Lea, William, Jacob, Jaime, Laura, Joshua, Cory, Bryan and David, his 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service for Anthony will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas A. Heck at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 9:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these services, family and friends will travel to Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241, (941) 922-7200 where Anthony will receive a Military Tribute from the Honor Guard of the United States Army in recognition of his long and meritorious service in defense of our country. He will thereafter be laid to rest among his fellow fallen members of our nation's military.
