Cesar L. Pineda

April 19, 1937 - January 22, 2022

On Saturday, January 22, 2022, Cesar L. Pineda, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 84 in Cape Coral, FL. Cesar was born April 9, 1937 in San Juan, Rizal (Metro Manila), Republic of the Philippines (RP) to Vicente Pineda and Remedios Lorilla. He graduated High School Valedictorian at Legaspi College in Legaspi City, RP. He then graduated from University of the Philippines with a degree in geodetic engineering, and was president of the Mathematics Club at U.P. during his time there. He taught as a professor of mathematics and economics at the University of the East before emigrating to the United States. Cesar loved chess and taught the game to his young children. He programmed computer-generated move-by-move diagrams of notable chess games and compiled several books illustrating these games. His creativity, inventiveness, desire for learning, and DIY (do it yourself) spirit permeated all of his endeavors, and he had a lifelong curiosity and interest in healing that led him to study massage therapy, which he practiced professionally into his late 60s. Cesar had a natural talent for music and singing, even buying a guitar in his late 70s in order to learn to play. He was known for his patience, kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and his happy, smiling face. He is survived by his three children, Deanna, Michele, and Jerome; and two grandchildren, Logan and Luke. He is also survived by sisters Nydia Podgorny and Olivia P. Francisco, brother Crispulo L. Pineda, many nieces and nephews; and longtime family aide Estrella C. Murphy. He is greatly missed by all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial for Cesar and Zenaida will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 10, 2022 inside the Main Sanctuary at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Boulevard, Cape Coral, Florida 33904, (239) 574-4545. At the conclusion of Mass, friends and family will travel to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555 where Cesar and Zenaida will be laid to rest at the Green Lea Estates section. Following the burial, a reception will be held at Pinchers, 5991 Silver King Blvd, Cape Coral, FL 33914. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Cesar L. Pineda to the U.S. Chess Center, a 501(c)(3) charity with the mission of teaching at-risk youth to play chess in order to improve their academic and social skills.
