Dwayne Kent Nickel 73 Dwayne lost his battle with COVID after an extended illness on Friday, September 10, 2021 at HealthPark Hospital in Fort Myers, FL. He was born on November 21, 1947 in Goessel, KS. Dwayne was a Vietnam Veteran, Army 82nd Airborne division. He served in Vietnam with the rank of Sergeant and took his responsibility to his country seriously the rest of his life. He was also a member of the 5th Army Honor Guard and the Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Wichita State, BA Business and Marketing. He was a 39-year RV industry veteran later serving on committees for RVIA and in executive positions at Kinder Mfg., Contra Seating, Lux Company of Coachmen, Fabwel Owens Corning and Dicor Corporation. His international travels took him all over the world discovering new products for development in the RV industry. He and Julie were retired and living in Fort Myers, Florida. Dwayne enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan for 25 years, scuba diving, skiing, riding motorcycles, and of late, exploring the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and learning to shark fish. Dwayne loved life and made the most of every adventure. Dwayne enjoyed working with his hands, a talented woodworker, he was often found building something in the garage. He was always ready to help out anyone that needed advice or a helping hand. He was a volunteer at CROW on Sanibel Island and a huge fan of nature. He still has many lifelong friends and has gathered more on his adventures through life. His greatest love however, was being a grandpa. Dwayne is survived by his wife of 27 years, Julie Jenkins Nickel, daughter Lindsay Johanns MacFeat (James), granddaughters Isla and Emma of Somers, CT, brother Richard Nickel (Palm Desert CA), and sister Donna Venso (Newton KS). Preceded in death by parents Pete and Edna (Schroeder) Nickel, he leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family. We will be celebrating Dwayne’s life on Friday, November 26 at the Field of Honor at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. The short outdoor military ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Dwayne’s honor to CROW (Center for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Sanibel Island, FL) or Vietnam Veterans of America.
