Edmunde James Henke

Edmunde James Henke, 82, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 1977, formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born October 19, 1939 in Chicago, IL to the late Edmunde and Dorothy Henke. Ed retired from the Lee County Port Authority in 2006 after many years of service. He genuinely cherished his coworkers and the years he spent working with them. He was always willing to mentor and support those around him. He and his wife Barbara enjoyed spending summers at their home in Clayton, Georgia. He loved the mountains and changing of the seasons. A few funny facts; When my sister and I were young my dad would cook and his spaghetti sauce and his chili tasted the exact same except one had beans. He was a very organized and detailed man, he would vacuum with moth balls before the sun would rise. Our friends just loved the smell of moth balls. Also, he would rake the carpet so it had perfect lines. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Barbara Henke of Fort Myers, FL; two daughters, Debra Pendlebury (Jeff) of Fort Myers, FL and Renee Marks of Fort Myers, FL; one brother, Robert Henke (Carol) of Fort Myers, FL; as well as three adored grandchildren, Ellie, Ashley and Cooper. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at the Serenity Mausoleum 8 in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
