November 1, 1928 - November 22, 2021
Helen Schuetz, a long-time Fort Myers resident, died from natural causes on November 22, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born November 1, 1928 to Mike and Anna Pachuta, Helen was raised in a small coal mining village near Cambridge, Ohio. After graduating from Cambridge High School, Helen moved to Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a secretarial career. Soon after arriving in Cleveland, she met and married her lifetime love, Roy Schuetz. In 1959, she migrated to Ft. Myers, where she raised her family and continued her career as the school secretary at Orange River Elementary School. Helen believed in community volunteerism, involving herself in the Parent Teacher Association, in youth baseball and football organizations, and in Hospice. Moving later in retirement to Tallahassee, Helen was proud to call Ft. Myers her hometown. Helen was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she sang in the choir. She lived her faith in a quiet and sincere manner, putting her trust in the Lord for all things. She demonstrated both a mother’s and a grandmother’s love and devotion in many ways, leaving no doubt as to the care and concern she felt for her loved ones. As a passionate fan of youth sports, Helen was an avid supporter of Bishop Verot athletics. Helen was preceded in death by Roy, her husband of 65 years, her parents, and four siblings. She is survived by three sons, Joe (Rita), Roy “Corky” Jr., and Mark (Cindi), grandchildren Eva Hawker, Erika King, Dr. Elisa Schuetz, Kurt Schuetz, Maj. Kelly Schuetz, Hillary Schuetz, Matt Schuetz and Zach Schuetz, and seven great grandchildren. She also has two surviving siblings, John and Margie, both in Ohio. Services will be held Saturday, December 4th at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant Care Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida.
