July 11, 1935 - October 10, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Nocerino, our loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Stricken suddenly by a cardiovascular event, she left this world on October 10, 2021 reassured by the loving presence of her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Joan was born in New York City on July 11, 1935 to James and Louise Solimano. After graduating from John Adams High School and beginning a career with Pan Am, she married her lifelong love and constant companion Nicholas Nocerino, Jr on January 8, 1956. Joan and Nick both reported they had an inkling they’d get married when they first met. They moved their family to Fort Myers in 1977 and could be seen walking together along McGregor Blvd. throughout the 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2000’s. In recent years, the two of them enjoyed their summers together at their mountainside cottage in Lansing, NC. Always wearing a smile and choosing to be happy each day, she was a gentle soul that brought joy to those around her. She was well loved by all who knew her – most especially her husband of 65 years, Nick. She treated everyone with genuine interest and affection. At 86, she remained curious and humble -- she never stopped asking questions and never forgot how to laugh at herself. She was always helpful and spent much of her life caring for others, from her handicapped brother Tom, to her husband Nick, who she supported through numerous medical procedures, to her children, and her community. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She always made her devoted sons feel loved and special. Her grandchildren felt warmth in the presence of Grandma. She approached the difficulties of life with good humor, thrift, and remarkable patience. After 86 happy years, our only regret is that we cannot keep her for a little longer. She was the loving wife of Nicholas Nocerino, Jr., devoted mother of Nicholas S. Nocerino (Molly) of Hinsdale, IL and Thomas G. Nocerino (Marilyn) of Nazareth, PA, adored grandmother of Nicholas T. Nocerino, Katherine Joan Nocerino, Michael T. Nocerino, Nicholas M. Nocerino, and Robert T. Nocerino, loving daughter of the late Louise Musante Solimano, and dedicated sister of the late Thomas Solimano. Please join us celebrating her life at a funeral mass at 10am on Monday, October 25th at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Cecilia’s and/or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 167 St. Francis Place, P.O. Box 634, Jefferson, North Carolina 28640.
