Dr. Sergio René Mather

Dr. Sergio René Mather passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the age of 72 years old. Sergio will be remembered as someone who lived life to the fullest with each moment dedicated to the love he had for his wife, family, friends, and career. Sergio was a pillar in his community for the past 40 years working tirelessly to care for his patients as a physician specializing in endocrinology. He spoke of his life’s work as a calling and those who worked with him remember him with great respect and appreciation. He was known as a gentle, soft-spoken, patient, and humble man with great intelligence, talent, athleticism, and zest for life. When not working, Sergio could be found with his family or friends, playing tennis, riding his bicycle, sailing, traveling, sitting peacefully lakeside, or masterfully playing his piano to a classical tune. Upon his passing, Sergio was reunited with his father, William Sergio Mather, his mother, Marina Mather and his grandson, Raphael Sergio Mather. Those who will miss Sergio the most include his wife and adventure companion, Toni Rae Mather; his son, Jacques Mather and his wife Fabiola; his daughter, Stephanie Massaro and her husband Mark; his daughter, Jimmie Lee Cummins and her husband Scott; his grandchildren, Noah Cummins, Samuel Cummins, Dominic Massaro and two granddaughters arriving in 2022; multiple extended family members both in Peru and in the United States; and a host of close friends. The family will hold a small, private service to honor Sergio and his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to either the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org or to the Church of God of Prophecy at 15146 Stringfellow Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922.
