Agatha S. Ray's Obituary
Agatha was born in Athens, Tennessee on March 11, 1939 and was the loving wife of Howard W. Ray, devoted mother of sons Jeffrey Scott and Roger William and daughter Teri D. Ray, and proud grandmother of Dr. Jessica Ray, William Scott Ray, John (Jack) Fitzpatrick Ray and Thomas William Ray. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Hunter Starr, Sr. and Willie Underwood Starr, sister Francis Monroe and Brother Ray Starr. In addition to her immediate family she is survived by sisters Betty Wright, Wanda Patterson, Glenda Hall, Kaye Payne and Faye Morris and brother George Starr, Jr. On October 24, 2018 at approximately 9:45 AM. she passed away peacefully and, therefore, ceased to bear the suffering she has endured for most of the past two years. She was an avid tennis player, supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers and loved to try new recipes for the enjoyment of family and friends. And then, of course, prior to the limitation of her very bad knees, she loved, and spent hours, walking the beach looking for those rare shells of which she found many. Although the last few years were often difficult due to failing health, including overcoming lymphoma, she was still the cheerful, smiling treasure that came into Howard’s life more than sixty years ago, and she will be terribly missed by all who knew her. If you are so inclined, contributions in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association will be a great honor for her and her family.
