Alice Huffer Matz's Obituary
Alice Huffer Matz , widow of Maynard W. Matz, went to be with the Lord in Port Orange, Florida on May 12, 2022. They were long time residents of Fort Myers. Shortly after Maynard’s death in 2016, Alice moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and later to Benton House Assisted Living in Port Orange, Florida. A Funeral Service will be held on 1:00 PM, Monday, June 6, 2022 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida. Entombment will follow for family only. A reception for family and friends at the Funeral Home immediately following the Funeral.
Alice was born in Circleville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Roy and Margaret Huffer and the oldest of nine children. After graduating from high school, at nineteen she went to beauty school and started her own business. Alice loved cooking, baking and entertaining, but her favorite thing was always shopping.
Alice married the love of her life, Maynard W. Matz on August 1, 1941 and they enjoyed 74 years of marriage. They moved from Brooksville, Ohio to Fort Myers, Florida in 1958. After Maynard’s death in 2016, Alice moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida to be close to her daughter, her granddaughters and their families.
Alice is survived by her four children, Karen E Dearen (Bob) of Coral Springs, Linda J Johnston (Jim) of New Smyrna Beach, John W. Matz (Jean) of Cape Haze and Mary A Couris of Coconut Creek, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, her sister, Carolyn List of Lima, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Dorothy, Jane, Margaret and Rosemary, and brothers Roy, Chuck and Bob and grandson, James T. Johnston.
