Allen Ellis' Obituary
Allen R. Ellis, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He was born in Lakeland, FL and moved to Florida in 1918. As a boy, Allen delivered groceries to the home of Thomas Edison. He was a graduate of Fort Myers High School and the University of Florida.Allen was a retired Army Major serving in World War II and Korean War. For the next 35 years he had his own insurance agency. He was a past member of the Fort Myers and Estero Historical Societies, a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sybil Ellis; 4 children: Rebecca (Cliff) Buck, Arletta (Jackie) Kline, Chap (Lynn) and Rick (Carol) Ellis; grandchildren: Kara Krantz, Heather Riviezzo, Steve, Ashley, Cody and Reid Ellis; step-grandchildren: Kyle and Zack Vealey and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Meece, Floyd and Robert; a sister, Daisy Cunningham and a grandson, Chip Ellis.The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the Life Care Center of Estero, especially Danette Upshaw and to Hope Hospice at HealthPark.Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. Friends will be received from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Private entombment will be in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice of Lee County, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
