Alvin Thompkins Harley's Obituary
Alvin Thompkins Harley of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, May 6, 2016 following some recent health challenges. He was 97 years old.He was born on August 10, 1918 in Painesville, Ohio, the proud son of Charlotte (Whitney) and George Harley. He was a veteran of the United States Army who was attached to the headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander of the European Theatre, Dwight D. Eisenhower, during World War II. Alvin also worked many years in Florida as a Real Estate Broker Associate and was a active worshipper and member at Gulf Coast Church of Christ.He leaves to cherish his loving memory his sons Robert A. Harley (Jan) of Sylva, North Carolina and Allin T. Harley of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Daniel, Amanda, David, Jeff and Jennifer. He also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; a number of extended family members and a multitude of people were proud to call him a friend. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Corinne, sisters Janet Smith, Elaine Williams and Charlotte Napier; and brothers Russell, Garner and Lynn Harley.A Memorial Service for Alvin will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Gulf Coast Church of Christ, 9550 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, Florida 33966, (239) 936-4554. Friends will be received for two hours preceding the service beginning at 11:00 AM for Visitation also at the church. Following conclusion of these ceremonies, friends and family will then travel to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555 where Alvin will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Corinne in the Prayer Garden.Those who wish to share a story, leave a tribute or offer condolences to the family should visit Mr. Harley’s memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign the guestbook.
