Anthony Frank "Tony" Harmon's Obituary
Anthony "Tony" F. Harmon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 13, 2024, at the age of 76. Tony's life was a testament to love, dedication, and joy, and he leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and warm laughter.
Tony was born in 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, where his early years were filled with the vibrant energy of the city. In 1976 he moved his family to Homewood, Illinois, before spending his final 14 years with his wife in North Fort Myers, Florida. Tony's professional life was marked by a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), during which he worked in both public and private accounting for 38 years. It was at a big eight accounting firm, where he met Mary Ann, the love of his life. Their bond was unbreakable, and they celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage together.
A true Chicago sports enthusiast, Tony was an avid fan of the White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Blackhawks. His love for sports was rivaled only by his passion for fishing and playing bridge. Some of his happiest moments were spent deep sea fishing with his family during their visits to Florida.
Tony and Mary Ann's shared love for fishing took root on their vacations in Wisconsin. It was there that they discovered Shady Oaks Campground in 1976, a summer haven where they spent their summers up until 2022. The campground became a cherished family retreat, filled with countless memories of fishing, laughter, and togetherness.
Tony was deeply involved in his Florida community, The Heritage, where he played in the men's golf league and softball. He served on the board of the Homeowners Association (HOA) and contributed his expertise as their treasurer. Additionally, he was an active member of the by-laws committee. Tony's commitment to his community reflected his generous spirit and dedication to making a difference.
He found joy in attending dances, playing video games, visiting the casino and spending quality time with his beloved wife, Mary Ann. His infectious smile and hearty laughter were distinctive features of his personality. Tony loved to tell corny jokes and watch hours of Hallmark type movies, but only if they had a happy ending.
Tony is preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Trilik; his father, Anthony Harmon; and his oldest sister, Mary Ondracek. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Harmon; his sister, Toni (Bob) Brasch; his son, Anthony F. Harmon Jr.; his daughter, Angie (Rodney) Tucker; his grandsons, Rylan Whalen, Trent Tucker, and Kyle Tucker, and his brothers-in-law Mike (Sue) Conley and Clem Ondracek. Tony also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will forever remember his warmth and humor, many who knew him as Uncle Bud.
Tony's legacy is one of love, laughter, and dedication. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived and the joy he brought to those around him.
