Arlene was my sister in law but even more she was like a true sister to me. She and Sal were so kind to us and I can never forget when they took me and my two younger children into their home for 3 months after I separated from my husband. They provided safety, security and delicious meals for us, and would take nothing in return. We were given young Michael's bedroom and he slept in their bed. We stayed until I could get a job, a car and an apartment to start over. I will be forever grateful for their help during a very difficult time in my life.
Another incident I will never forget is the Christmas Eve we gathered with family and exchanged gifts . Arlene and I gave each other the identical gift, a nightgown in an apricot color. There was no preplanning of what anyone wanted, but being of like mind, we chose each other the same thing, even to the color. What are the chances of that happening?
They bought a home a block away from me in Bloomingdale which I knew was going on the market and I called Arlene to suggest she come to see it. They bought it the next day. I spent a lot of precious time with Arlene in those days. I saw her once after moving to Arizona, when I was on a trip back east. I had invited her to come and visit us in Arizona but it didn't happen. I'm glad she and Michael moved to Florida to be near Irene and Sam and the kids. Godspeed Arlene, love you forever!
