Arthur H. Hale's Obituary
“Art” Hale, Jr., 75, of Cape Coral, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013. He was born December 9, 1937 in Wilmington, DE and served his county in the United States Army. Brother to Claire and Sue, father to Kathy, Art III, and his step-children: Julie and Derek, he lived life the way he wished, in recent years spending his time between his business in the Bahamas and then a more sedate pace upon arrival in Cape Coral. Always eager to join the conversation, particularly if the conversation involved politics, he was well read and assured in his opinions. His formative years were spend in Wilmington, with the occasional summer spent working on family farm property in Arkansas. Politically active as early as his college days at Emory, he followed each political season with great interest, even while earning his Masters in Business Administration at Chicago School of Business. He was an energetic supporter of his children’s athletics endeavors, his vocal encouragements effortlessly rising above the din of the crowd. It was a rare occasion indeed when he was not present at an athletic event his kids were participating in. An avid sailor, he started sailing on the Chesapeake Bay in the late ’50’s, then after his kids had left school, sailing between the Chesapeake Bay and the Bahamas, via the intercoastal waterway, then crossing over. Compassionately, his primary cargo headed for the Bahamas were boxes of gently used clothing, which he would distribute to those in need. His fondness for the Bahamas grew stronger, and he eventually started a business there, in support of the tourist resorts. As a non-Bahamian, being approved to head a business in the Bahamas took determination, and knowing the right people. With the help of Mila, his partner in this venture, they were able to achieve both.Did I mention he loved his dogs…oh did he love his dogs. And they loved him back.It is the family’s intention to conduct a memorial later this month at Westminister Presbyterian Church, Wilmington Delaware.”Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardnes Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555.
