Dr. Arthur Clark Smith's Obituary
Dr. Arthur Clark Smith, 85, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011.?áHe was born July 26, 1925 in Abingdon, Virginia to the late John Talbert Smith and Bertha Marie (Neidermaier) Smith.?á He graduated from William King High School in Abingdon in 1943 and then served in the US Navy.?áHe married Dorothy McWilliams in 1945.?áArthur received his BS in Education and his Masters in Science from Florida State.?áHe earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Miami. Throughout his career, Dr. Smith worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in Florida.?áHe was a member and officer of the LCREA and a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; daughters, Donna Clarke and Cecelia (and her husband John) Hoisington; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; and a brother, Russell A. Smith. There will be a visitation on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.?áFuneral will begin at 2:00.?áInterment with military honors will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
