With retirement from AT&T in 1984, Florida became a second home where Art was a respected part of the community and enjoyed life at Olde Hickory Country Club. He played golf, was active in church and shrine choirs, volunteered his skills for Habitat Humanity and was a 32nd degree Mason. In addition to church, the Telephone Pioneers, American Legion and VFW were important parts of his life.
Arthur had two long and loving marriages. He was predeceased by Marilyn Faye Necker in 1982, and Norma Lee Dale in 2022.
