Barbara (Bobbie) Gainer Hawkins-Gilbert's Obituary
Barbara (Bobbie) Gainer Hawkins/Gilbert, 84, of North Fort Myers/Fort Myers went home to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday July 17, 2015. She was the daughter of Franklin S. & Lucille C. Gainer of 7269 Coon Rd. North Fort Myers, who predeceased her. Mrs. Gilbert was born on August 23, 1930 in Marlinton, WV. She was united in marriage to Mr. Earl Hawkins, Sr. on April 16, 1949, who predeceased her after 51 years.She is survived by her husband of 2 1/2 yrs. Ernest E. Gilbert, Jr., her two brothers Richard (Lois) Gainer of Lutz, FL, Edward Gainer of Mount Crawford, VA and her sister Violene (James) Heatwole of Las Vegas, NV. Bobbie and Earl had three sons, Carlton (Belinda) Hawkins of Augusta, ME , Earl (Michele) Hawkins of San Carlos Park, FL & Donald (Brenda) Hawkins of McGregor, TX. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, and five nieces and four nephews.She was a member of Bayshore Chapel on Samvile Rd. North Fort Myers, FL for many years. She received her education at Bridgewater High School, Bridgewater, VA, and she received her Associates Degree at Edison College and University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. She also received her Cosmotology license as a hairdresser in 2000. She retired from the Lee County School District in 1999. After her retirement, she became a substitute teacher in the Lee County School District. She worked with the deaf children for many years and was adept in sign language. She was a very caring and loving person and was always ready to help where she was needed. All one had to do is say, “HELP.”A Visitation for Barbara will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Memories at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Monday, July 20, 2015. A Memorial Service celebrated by Pastor Mark Means will thereafter take place at 1:00 PM also in the Chapel of Memories.
