Barbara Joan Mikkelsen's Obituary
Barbara Joan Mikkelsen, 90, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026. She was born on June 18, 1935, in Patchogue, New York, to the late William and Margaret (Fitzpatrick) Lukert.
Barbara spent most of her life in Patchogue, where she grew up on her parents chicken farm and raised her family right next to her childhood home, before relocating to Cape Coral in 2005 to be close to their children. She shared nearly seven decades of marriage with her devoted husband, and together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and shared adventures together and with good friends.
Barbara had a deep love for travel and cherished the many journeys she and her husband Donald took around the world. She absolutely loved the beach, beach combing and found great joy in the outdoors. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit and sense of fun, including bocce ball, camping, and square dancing, activities that kept her active and connected to friends and family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Donald Leon Mikkelsen; her daughter, Donna Mikkelsen, of Cape Coral, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Mikkelsen, of Palm Harbor, Florida; and her grandchildren, Megan and Lillian. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Shauna Reynolds, James (Jeannie) Reynolds, William (Jen) Lukert, Robert "Mike" Lukert, and Eric(Kathleen)Lukert
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Mikkelsen; her brother, William Lukert; and her sister, Murial Reynolds.
All services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
