Beatrice "Betty" B. Madison's Obituary
Beatrice B. Madison (Betty), 94, a resident of Southwest Florida since 1992, formerly of Southington, CT passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 in Cape Coral, FL. She was born June 1, 1929 in Harwinton, CT to the late Floyd and Pearl (nee Bogrett) Burnell.
Betty was an accountant for General Hypodermics a division of Johnson and Johnson for many years before following her passion and becoming a high school business teacher at Southington High School in CT. She established the first Cooperative Work program for the school and also was the advisor for the Future Business Leaders of America club. Later in life she set up the first computerized accounting system for Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Myers and taught the staff how to use it. Betty enjoyed being the Queen of the Fort Myers chapter of the Red Hats (Red Hats in Paradise) for many years and she spent many hours scrapbooking and playing bingo. She was a member of The National Education Association, CT Education Association, Delta Pi Epsilon, Southington Educational Association and the National Society of Accountants, the Lee Plantation Women's Club, Lee Plantation Homeowner's Association and the Faith United Methodist Church Women's Group. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Carl Madison; as well as two brother, Lloyd (Sonny) Bunnell and Roy Bunnell.
Beatrice is survived by her two loving sons, Carl Thomas Madison, Jr (Carol) of Windsor, CO and Kyle William Madison (Lynda) of Port Charlotte, FL; two sisters, Joan Tassinari (Donald) of Cape Coral, FL and Frances Little of North Fort Myers, FL; three adored grandchildren, Kyle W. Madison, II (Danielle) of Bristol, CT, Kala Marie Johnson (Andrew) of Cape Coral, FL and Allen Joseph Beattie, III (Katherine) of Clearwater, FL; two great grandchildren, Bella and Shane Tobin; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907. Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Christus Garden of Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 in loving memory of Beatrice M. Madison.
