Bernard Colas' Obituary
Bernard Colas of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020. He was 79 years old.
Bernard was born in Bordeaux, France to Fernand Colas and NMarguerite Prinet on August 1, 1940. He was one of 12 children. He married the love of his life Paulette Calvete on August 1, 1959. He honorably served in the French Military from 1958 to 1961.
Bernard and Paulette moved to the United States in 1971 where he raised his sons. He worked as a self-employed business owner for Ornamental Columns and Statues, a company he built from the ground up. He dedicated 30 years of his life to his business before handing it over to his sons in 1996.
Upon retirement Bernard loved spending time at his part-time residence in North Carolina and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Bernard is survived by his loving family; wife Paulette Colas and four sons: Alain Colas and wife Megan, Didier Colas and wife Linda, Dominique Colas, Robert Colas and wife Regan. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Alan, Marissa, Jessica, Garrett, Brittni, Michael, Brandon, Rachel, Emily, and 3 great-grandchildren: Mason, Kaia and Kensie. Bernard also leaves behind many brothers and sisters and extended family in France along with many others who were proud to call him a friend. He will be warmly remembered and greatly missed.
Bernard was preceded in death by his father Fernand Colas and mother Marguerite Colas.
A Funeral Service for Bernard will be celebrated by Father Thomas A. Heck at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 3, 2020 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for a half-hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these ceremonies, friends and family will recedd to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Bernard will be laid to rest inside the Mausoleum located at the Garden of Serenity.
