Betty L. Apperson's Obituary
Betty L. Apperson, 84, a lifelong Fort Myers, FL resident passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 under the care of Hope Hospice. She was born November 29, 1936 in Fort Myers, FL to the late Paul and Nellie Schafer.
Betty was a hard-working mother of 6 children that she raised to adulthood. She enjoyed baking, cooking and pickling; primarily southern recipes that have been passed down from her mother and mother-in-law. Betty loved watching TV, especially Hallmark movies and miniseries. She has her own personal library full of VHS & DVD movies. Betty’s other love was her dog “Jake” who passed earlier this year. She loved her car, and her freedom to get in it and go whenever and wherever she wanted.
She was preceded in death by her son, Adam Mathis and brother, Clifford Schafer.
Betty is survived by her five children, Theresa Wiemer (William) of Fort Myers, FL, Nola Houck (Rick) of Fort Myers, FL, David Mathis Massie (Kim) of Lake City, FL, Deana Bauerle of Fort Pierce, FL and Angela Kelly (Dennis) of Hopkinsville, KY; two brothers, Lawrence Schafer (Bonnie) of Sarasota, FL and Vernon Schafer (Cathy) of Fort Myers, FL; nine grandchildren, Kristy Grifth (Bill), Brook Ruiz (Miguel), Joshua Smith, Leigha Taylor (Sean), Lexis Haeflee, Christopher Massie, Patrick Massie, John-Michael Kelly, Julianna Kelly and Jennlyn Kelly; six wonderful great grandchildren, Tayler Dennison, Jade Dennison, Leighton Edin, Lachlan Edin, Lincoln Edin and Oliver Ruiz; as well as many extended family members and friends.
