Betty L Horner's Obituary
Betty L. Horner, 98, passed from this life to her heavenly home on March 9
Betty was born to Ralph “Tim” Capehart and Sadie Elisabeth (Ogden) Capehart on December 16, 1925 in Jeffersonville, IN. Betty flourished in the love and friendship of her parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and looked back fondly on her childhood even though it included the Great Depression and Great Flood of 1937. Following her graduation from Jeffersonville High School in 1944, Betty went to work for Colgate Palmolive Company and, in 1946, she married her handsome WWII Navy veteran Robert L. (Bob) Horner (d. 1999).
Upon retirement, Bob and Betty moved to Fort Myers where they delighted in spending time with friends and family at the beach and around the pool. Their favorite years together were spent traveling the country in a motor home visiting nearly every state in the Union, making lifelong friends all along the way.
While they knew how to have fun, Bob and Betty were always most interested in helping others, and together they became active volunteers in their church and community. Following Bob’s death in 1999, Betty continued volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Health Park Hospital, and the Salvation Army.
Betty is survived by many loving friends and family members, but will be especially missed by her daughter Vickie (Rich) Brink, granddaughters Kim (Brent) Wybenga and Misty Wondergem, great grandchildren Trey, Eliana, and Brody Wondergem, loyal friend and fellow policewoman Laura Gordon, devoted nephew and niece Doc and Betty Jo Braitling, favorite dance and card partner Mary Belle Hull, and treasured friend and fishing partner Rick Gonzales.
A service in celebration of the life Betty lived and the life she is living with her Lord and Savior will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 13 at Peace Community Church located at 17671 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers, FL 33931.
Memorial donations in Betty’s honor may be made to Peace Community Church (address above), Henry Chapin Food Bank, 3760 Fowler St, Fort Myers, FL 33901 or Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy E, Cape Coral, FL 33909.
