Betty Jean Kohne's Obituary
Betty Jean Kohne (1940-2024)
Betty Jean “BJ” Kohne (nee Lane) 84, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully after a long illness on March 21, 2024.
BJ was born in Brownstown, Indiana, where she graduated from Brownstown High School. She was an active student; she was a cheerleader, member of the marching band (clarinet), and social editor of the school newspaper. Upon graduation, she worked for Western Electric in Indianapolis, until she became a mother. After her children were older, she started her own interior design business as an outlet for her creative instincts. In 2006, after 30 years as a designer, she moved to Florida with husband and dearest love Robert Kohne.
She was one of a kind: vibrant, stylish, social, and artistic, her hobbies included entertaining, gardening, and painting. She was the consummate hostess; her dinner parties were legendary. Among her proudest accomplishments were being a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, her award for Toastmistress of the Year, and motherhood.
BJ was preceded in death by her beloved Bob (1941-2021), her brother Jim Lane, and her sister Judy Sutton. She is survived by her loving children, Robbin and Eric; stepsons Todd, Tim, and Steve; grandchildren Jackson, Melody, Adam, Ben, Garret, Lea, Max, and Nathan; and great-grandson JT.
There will be a small, private celebration of life later this year. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in BJ’s name.
