Bettye Rinkel Chandler's Obituary
Bettye was born in Ft. Myers on May 8, 1922, daughter of the late George and Esther Rinkel. She was graduated from FMHS and attended Maryville College in Tennessee. Bettye and husband Andrew were married June 14, 1942. They lived in Ft. Myers with the exception of the time Andrew served in the military, returning permanently in 1964, after tours in Florida, Newfoundland, Kansas, and England. She passed away at home Sunday morning under the care of Hope Hospice.Bettye was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1935 , where she served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and played in the bell choir. She was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star and belonged to PEO Chapter B, SW Florida Orchid Society, the Pioneer Club of Lee County, and Go-See-Um Sams. She retired as a secretary from Lee County Schools. In her free time Bettye enjoyed volunteering at her church in the office and gardening group, camping with family and friends throughout the US, gardening, working in her orchids, and creating tatted lace.She was preceded in death by Andrew, her husband of 71 years. Survivors include sisters Eleanor Kinzie and Mary Waldron, daughters Barbara Barton, and Jean (Bruce)Hengge, son Glenn, eight grandchildren, and countless friends.Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM Wednesday April 13th. Friends will be received at the church from 1:00 until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
