Beverly Atkins
My dear Aunt Beverly Pettijohn Argo aka Auntie Bev passed away on October 23rd. I can say our hearts are broken for this devastating loss. I would like to share a little about her. She was always there in my life. She was my mom’s sister. Our families were close. We spent a great many holidays, camping trips, and beach outings together. She loved nature, and could tell you wonderful details about many things. She read to me as a little girl countless Dr. Suess books. She made the best guacamole and made me my first enchiladas and tamales in the 70s when Mexican food was still new to many. I can see her now with a pipe which she smoked for a while, and her jean skirt and hiking boots. She took me to the Virgin Islands and we camped on St. John. She backpacked the Blue Ridge trails with only my cousin Kim. She loved health food and sprouts. She stood behind me when I walked down the aisle and threw my dress train out behind me. She could make wine, cheese and crackers into a party. And thinking of all the games of Hearts that we played, I will remember her singing, “Heart on my heart, meant friends were dearer then, too bad we had to part. I’m sure a tear would glisten, if once more I could listen, to the gang who sang heart on my heart”. Aunt Bev, you will always be in mine.
