I met Mrs. Billie many years ago when I worked for the Fort Myers Police Dept. She needed a safety inspection of her home (off Mcgregor Blvd) so she requested it through the department and i went to her home. We started a conversation and to my surprise we discovered that she was my mothers cousin. I will say that she was the sweetest, nicest lady. Prayer for the familyKathy Hoffmann
As my family celebrated our freedom as Americans this past July 4th, we also celebrated the ultimate freedom of one of the finest people I have ever known … Billie Hires, who died this morning. She was 92 years old. I was privileged to be her pastor for many years. What a lady, what a life! She grew up in Fort Myers, Florida and met Mr. Thomas Edison when she was a little girl. She worked on behalf of mentally challenged children and adults and helped create an organization that serves their needs. She volunteered for and became a member of The Salvation Army, which is how I met her. A few years ago, my church presented her with the Peace Award to honor her work in our community. So many more things I could say about her but it's enough to say that a bright light has gone out today. Rest in peace Billie!
