As my family celebrated our freedom as Americans this past July 4th, we also celebrated the ultimate freedom of one of the finest people I have ever known … Billie Hires, who died this morning. She was 92 years old. I was privileged to be her pastor for many years. What a lady, what a life! She grew up in Fort Myers, Florida and met Mr. Thomas Edison when she was a little girl. She worked on behalf of mentally challenged children and adults and helped create an organization that serves their needs. She volunteered for and became a member of The Salvation Army, which is how I met her. A few years ago, my church presented her with the Peace Award to honor her work in our community. So many more things I could say about her but it's enough to say that a bright light has gone out today. Rest in peace Billie! Prayers for her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Wayne Delap , and members of their family. … RC Fleeman, Pastor, Peace Community Church
