"I must go down to the sea again..."
Brian Davenport, a cherished resident of Florida for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Fort Myers, FL. He was born on September 14, 1950, in Quincy, MA, to the late George Edwin and Bernice Mary (nee Curran) Davenport.
Brian proudly served his country as a United States Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War and later as a Merchant Marine. His professional career as an engineer on oil rigs provided him with the unique opportunity to travel extensively and experience the world.
Brian's true happiness was found by the sea. In his earlier years, he cherished fishing with his father and brother, Georgie, and enjoyed golfing. He found great joy in sailing with his best friend Art. The ocean was his sanctuary and his "Happy Place."
An avid card player and trivia enthusiast, Brian had an insatiable curiosity and a love for knowledge. He was a voracious reader and took pleasure in meeting and getting to know people from all walks of life. Along with his parents, Brian was preceded in death by his sister, Donna and brother, Georgie.
He is survived by his sisters Sharon Leahy of California, Joan Davenport of Weymouth, MA, Jeanne O'Connor of Quincy, MA, Janet Coates (Douglas) of Weymouth, MA, Joyce Harvill of Fort Myers Beach, FL, Bernice "Bunny" Davenport of Braintree, MA, and Patricia Travis (Tommy) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Lacy Linville and Ashley Johnson spoken of often and loved by Brian; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends.
Brian's memory will be deeply cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His adventurous spirit and love for the ocean will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
