Calvin Joseph Beauchamp's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce Calvin Joseph Beauchamp, 95, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 15, 2025. Born in Arlington, Virginia, Calvin spent much of his youth and adult life in Montross, Virginia. In 1951, he moved to Northern Virginia where he worked and started his married life. In 1996 he relocated to Florida.
Calvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Sylvia. He is survived by his daughter Gail Spratt and her husband Rob, his grandchildren Jennifer Spratt, Ashley Swain (Cory), Courtney Kosmopoulos (Nikos), Kimberly Sharrock (Taylor), Paige Spratt and Clarity Spratt and also great grandchildren Jason Swain, Colton Swain, and Emmaline Kosmopoulos. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Calvin was a proud veteran, having served two years in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Naval Security Station in Washington, DC in 1973.
Calvin dedicated much of his time to his passion for horses. He was an accomplished competitor, earning numerous awards in barrel racing, pole bending, and other speed events, competing on his horse, Goldie. His love for the sport and his achievements in these events were a source of great pride, and he always enjoyed sharing his love for horses with his daughter Gail who showed alongside him and his granddaughters who have also loved the sport.
An avid boater, Calvin enjoyed exploring hidden waterways, and he especially loved the trips he made with Rob on his boat, traveling from Virginia to Florida. Rob was the captain, while Calvin took charge of preparing fried bologna and egg sandwiches. He was also an excellent water-skier in his younger years and tales were told he could never be knocked off his skis.
A man of many talents, Calvin was known throughout his community as someone who could fix anything. Friends and neighbors regularly sought his expertise, and he was always quick to lend a helping hand. His natural friendliness and genuine desire to help others made him the cornerstone of every neighborhood he called home.
Calvin found great joy in music, particularly country, gospel, and bluegrass, and one of his beloved favorites was "The Old Rugged Cross”. He and Sylvia would travel in their motorhome for bluegrass festivals many weekends with friends. He was a devoted member of Daniels Road Baptist Church since 1997.
Above all, Calvin’s greatest joy was his family. As a grandfather, he brought fun and laughter to his grandchildren's lives, creating countless precious memories through the years. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his family and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
