Carl J. Sheusi's Obituary
Carl J. Sheusi, M.D.F.A.C.P., F.C.C.P., passed away on July 5th, 2024 in Fort Myers, Florida at the age of 96. He was born on February 25, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY to James and Mary Sheusi. Carl was preceded in passing by his brother Charles Sheusi, and his wife Jean Russell.
Carl obtained his Bachelor of Arts in biological Sciences at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and his Master of Arts in Anatomy from the University of Toronto, Toronto Ontario. He also attended the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine as a Doctor of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, and his Fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis at the Edward J. Meyer Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
Carl was Board Certified and recertified in Internal Medicine in 1960 and 1962 and practiced medicine and pulmonary diseases from 1960 until 1998 in Niagara Falls, NY. He practiced at the Niagara Falls Memorial medical center and was Assistant Chief of Medicine and subsequently Chief of Medicine until retirement in October of 1997. He also served in the New York Air Guard and the United States Air Force for 25 years retiring as Brigadier General in the New York Air Guard Retired List. He served in Tuy Hoa Vietnam as flight surgeon to fighter units and C130 rescue units while primarily commanding the medical facility. He received the Air Medal with a Bronze Star and a Distinguished Service Medal.
Following retirement in 1998, he and his wife Mary Ann moved to Naples, Florida to the Shell Point Retirement Community. Carl volunteered at the Senior Friendship Clinic in Naples for 14 years.
Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years Mary Ann; his children James Sheusi, Mary Yates, and Monica Grecco; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
