Carl Allen Walker's Obituary
Carl Walker, 87, walked gently into the arms of God on December 23, 2014. He was born on March 1, 1927 in Delray Beach, Fla., the son of Alva and Mary Walker. After graduation from High School, Carl served his country honorably in The U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Fla., and remained an avid “Gator” fan. Carl was an huge football fan and a charter season ticket-holder for the Miami Dolphins. He thoroughly enjoyed and attended many Super Bowls with his wife. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 43 years, Betty, who he always referred to as his “best friend”; his sons, Tom, Dale, and Rick; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Emogene Morgan; nephew, Douglas Morgan; niece, Victoria (Tom) Pierce; two great-nieces and one great-nephew.He was preceded in death by his son, Jack B. Walker; his brother, Jack D. Walker; grandson, Jason C. Fullon and niece, Marilyn Morgan. Carl moved to Ft. Myers in 1958. In 1962, he and Betty Wilson opened Walker Builders Supply as partners. The partnership and friendship became a marriage August 16, 1971.He was a long-time member of the Florida Lumber Dealers Association, where he served two years as President. He was also a long-time member of the National Lumber Association.Carl was a past local president and member of the International Concatenated order of Hoo-Hoo, a fraternal organization of lumber dealers.He was a member and lay-leader at McGregor Baptist Church; creating a innovative program for divorce recovery. Carl was also the group leader for bereavement counseling and support for many years.In addition, he was a Little League baseball coach for 21 years, starting out in Palm Beach County and later in Ft. Myers. During that time his team won a state championship. Carl was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, where he was the absolute star one year in the annual charitable fund raising group, “The Follies.” In 1986, Carl and Betty sold Walker Builders Supply. They decided in 1997 to get in their motor home and start travelling. They fell in love with Cody, Wyoming, built a home there in 1999, and became permanent residents.Visitation will be January 7, 2014 5:00-7:00pm at Memorial Gardens. Funeral service will take place at Mcgregor Baptist Church January 8, 2014 at 1pm, with graveside service to follow. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in Carl’s name to Caleb’s Crusade.
