Carmen Boland's Obituary
Carmen Boland, 90, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 2001, formerly of Edenton, NC and Forest Hills, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 26, 2023 in Fort Myers, FL. She was born May 19, 1932 in New York to the late, Frederick and Annie (nee Suhrmueller) Lampe.
Carmen was a professional tennis player. From 1951-1955 she was the number 1 ranked player in Florida for both singles and doubles. Carmen went on to play in the major Grand Slam tournaments including Wimbledon, Roland Garros (French Open) and the US Nationals (US Open). She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Boland; and her brother, Frederick Lampe.
Carmen is survived by her three loving children, Robert J. Boland, Jr. of Cary, NC, Richard Boland (Angela) of Freehold, NJ and Patricia Bernard (Bryan) of Orchard Park, NY; as well as four adored grandchildren, Liam, Aidan, Annie and Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, 821 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
