Carment Garner-George's Obituary
Carment Garner-George, 85, of Cape Coral, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2018. She was a beautiful woman who was well-loved by all who knew her.Carment was born February 19, 1933 in Panamá City, in the Republic of Panamá, to the late Clive Southerland and Myrtle Joseph. She was a graduate of Escuela Profesional de Panamá High School. She married Venancio Dupuy, Sr. in 1959. After her divorce, she migrated to the U.S. and settled in Brooklyn, NY. She was later joined by her two step-children, Venancio Jr. and Cornelia, whom she raised. At the request of her dying sister, Carment also helped raise her niece, Olivia.Carment went on to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City where she worked in the surgical/OR department for the duration of her career.After marrying her second husband, James Garner in 1985, Carment moved to Long Island and was favored by five step-children – Gregory, Patricia, James Jr., Gina and Verna. The couple later settled in Cape Coral, Florida.Carment became an active member of Cape Coral’s Church of the Epiphany and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women. After James Garner passed away in 1995, Carment later reconnected with Theodore George, whom she knew from childhood in Panamá. They married in this church in 2001 at which time Theodore became an active member and joined the Vestry. Carmen was well loved by Theodore’s children, Vanessa and Ronaldo.Carment’s favorite pastimes include her love of cooking, decorating, dancing, entertaining and traveling to Panamanian Independence Day celebrations. She especially loved sewing and creating beautiful curtains and drapes with her brother, Fred. She always showed compassion to the sick and shut-in and anyone in need.Carment is survived by her loving husband, Theodore George, her step-children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. Carment had a special relationship with each of her brothers and sisters; Fred, Lynette, Cleveland, Derrick, Mercedes, Dorothy and Henry, all who preceded her in death.A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33907.
