Carol Heligman's Obituary
Carol Heligman, 94, passed away on Saturday, October 17th, 2020 at Health Park Hospital. She had been a resident of Fort Myers and Sarasota, Florida for over 40 years.
Carol was born on December 14, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. She met her husband Ted in St. Louis and they eventually relocated to the suburbs of Detroit where they raised their four children. Ted and Carol loved to travel and frequently taught arts and crafts aboard cruise ships. Carol graduated from Wayne State University and was a schoolteacher by trade. She was very talented at making pottery and other forms of artwork. Carol was an avid tennis player and enjoyed boating in her earlier years.
Carol was a loving mother and will be missed greatly. She was preceded in rest by her husband of 64 years, Theodore “Ted” Heligman. Survivors include her children, Robert “Bobby” Heligman of Livonia, Michigan, Richard “Rick” Heligman (Donna) of West Bloomfield, Michigan, David Heligman (Claudia) of Fort Myers, Florida, and Marcy Cole (Bruce) of Libertyville, Illinois; she also leaves behind 9 grandchildren- Sandy (Heather), Jordan (Shauna), Ericka, Aaron, Samantha, Daniel, Lindsey (Jason), Lauren and Chelsea; 5 great-grandchildren- Julius, Astor, Hayden, Olivia and Declan; and her beloved dog Max who meant the world to Carol and Ted.
A graveside service officiated by Rabbi Diamond will be conducted on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 11:00AM at the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life and Shiva Ceremony at the home of her son, David Heligman beginning at 6pm.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Carol’s name to St. Judes Children's Hospital.
