Carol D. Sweeney's Obituary
Carol D. Sweeney (Schillumeit) former resident of Put-in-Bay age 79 lived at 3347 Rainbow Ln. N. Fort Myers Florida 33903 for the past 14 years. She passed away at 1:00 p.m. on February 5th 2016 at Lehigh Hospice House; after a long struggle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family Son Craig Sweeney, Daughter Dorothy F. Sweeney, Granddaughter Ashley Dunbar (Sweeney), Great Grandchildren Bryan 11, Amelia 10, and Evelyn 3, Daughter-in-Law Penny Sweeney, and Grandson-in-Law Darrell Dunbar. Carol was born on August 19, 1936 at Providence Hospital in Sandusky Ohio. She was preceded in death by her Son Michael L. Sweeney, Great-grandson Braiden Sweeney, and both of her parents Dorothy Lena Schillumeit (Stoecker) and Harry T. Schillumeit who were long residence Put-in-Bay. She is survived by her Sister Virginia Blumensaadt (Schilllumeit), Brother Franz Schillumeidt; Children Charles Sweeney, Dorothy Sweeney, and Craig Sweeney, and 5 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.Carol Graduated from class of 1954 from Put-in-Bay High School, and soon after met Richard Sweeney. After a short courtship of only two weeks they eloped to Richmond Indiana and were married on July 16, 1955. While raising their four children they were very involved is St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Carol worked at the old Log Cabin were she was a cook and waitress, her and her husband Richard leased the Snack House and the Chicken Patio through the year. She also worked for the Skyway, Boat House, and Tippers. While working at Tippers her Son Michael became ill, and she then dedicated her time to caring for him. After losing their Son Michael Sweeney in a plane crash while on a EMS run to Kelly’s Island they decided to become snowbirds; spending their winters in Florida. Before the death of her husband and permanently moving to Florida; Carol spent much of her time volunteering in the summers to raise money for the PIB EMS, which she loved doing. Carol will be greatly missed.
