Carol Jean Wade's Obituary
It is with profound sorrow and an abundance of cherished memories that we announce the passing of Carol Jean (Melby) Wade, a woman of extraordinary grace, warmth, and indomitable spirit. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her husband and children — a gentle and fitting farewell for a woman who gave so much of herself to those she loved. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Jean's life was a remarkable journey that carried her across the globe and into the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jean's early years were shaped by her father's distinguished career with Goodyear, which brought the family to St. Mary's, Ohio. Those formative years instilled in her a sense of adventure and adaptability that would define her throughout her life. She would go on to raise her own family in Hudson, Ohio, a place she called home for many years before settling into a well-earned retirement in the sunshine of Olde Hickory Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida.
A true pillar of her community, wherever she lived, Jean served on numerous boards and organizations throughout her life. Among her most treasured contributions were her many years of dedicated volunteer service with the Akron Children's Hospital Doggie Brigade, bringing comfort and joy to young patients during some of their most difficult days. Those who witnessed her work there saw firsthand the depth of her compassion.
In retirement, Jean embraced the world with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything she did. She achieved the remarkable feat of traveling to all seven continents, visiting 45 countries, and exploring all 50 of the United States — a testament to her boundless curiosity and zest for life. Whether exploring the far corners of the world or discovering treasures close to home, she carried a same sense of wonder and humor to every journey.
An avid reader and dedicated golfer, Jean loved life’s pleasures with equal passion. Whether lost in a good book or out on the course, she brought joy and enthusiasm to everything she did. Her friends describe her as “eloquent and beautiful with an amazing sense of humor and a deeply caring heart.”
Above all else, Jean's greatest joy was her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she poured into them the same love, laughter, and devotion that she brought to everything she touched.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved father, Floyd Melby, and her cherished mother, Elizabeth Melby O’Neal.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Doug Wade; her daughter, Julie Wade-Noll, and her husband Jason; her son, Mike Wade, and his wife Lindsay; her beloved grandchildren, Carolyn, Carson, and Piper; her sister, Joyce Melby Jordan; and her brothers, Floyd “Bus” Melby and John Melby.
Memorial Service arrangements will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Jean’s laughter, kindness, and love will echo in the lives of everyone she touched.
