Carolyn Rovelli Loesch's Obituary
Carolyn Rovelli Loesch – November 18, 1948 – April 18, 2021
Estero, FL. Carolyn gently left this world on April 18, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Virginia Rovelli of Albany, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Arthur Loesch. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jessica (David) Duncan; her sons, Eric and Gregory Loesch; her grandchildren, Kyle Duncan and Bridget Duncan; her great grandson, Kaiden Hillard; her stepson, Frederic Loesch; her sister Sandra (Leroy) Hirsch; her sister-in-law, Grace (Semih) Kalay; lifelong friend, Barbara Ryan; extended family members; nieces; nephews; cousins, and steadfast friends.
Carolyn attended Albany High School, Albany Business College, Russell Sage College, and Nelson A. Rockefeller Graduate School of Public Affairs and Policy. She cherished her school days and was active in many clubs and sororities including Beta Phi, Alpha Iota, and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She was employed by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services in Workforce Development as head of the Initial Credentialling Unit. She retired in 2009 and moved to Florida in 2015.
Carolyn’s children were her life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. No matter what the activity, she eagerly participated. She was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sunday School, and the PTA. In Guilderland, she was a long-time member of the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church. In Estero, she was an active member of the Lamb of God Church.
Her compassion extended beyond her family to causes that were close to her heart such as disenfranchised women and children. As such, she volunteered in settings that served this population such as food banks, soup kitchens and women’s shelters. She was passionate about nature and preserving wildlife, especially the foxes, and successfully led a movement to preserve many acres of land in her NY community.
Carolyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, playing games, puttering in her butterfly garden, hiking and traveling. She traveled to over 60 countries and embraced the cultural diversity in the world. She made friends wherever she went. Still, her favorite place was hanging out with family at the lake in the Adirondacks with rainy day trips to Montreal.
Carolyn had a rich network of family and friends from all walks of life. Her special circle of women friends rallied around her and lifted her up. She had a way of marveling at the simplest things in life much as she did the grandest, never taking life for granted. It was a life well-lived.
Interment will take place at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation made to the Café of Life, Inc. P.O. Box 367794, Bonita Springs, FL, 34136, to help care for those in need would be lovingly appreciated
