Gene Maddox Charles Eugene ?Ç£Gene?Ç¥ Maddox, Sr., 72 ?áof Ft. Myers, FL passed away on?á February 12, 2011.?á Gene was born in Lynchburg, VA, on June 3, 1938, ?áa son of the late Carroll S. and Myrtle Bryant Maddox.?á Gene moved to Fort Myers in 1956 from Alexandria, VA.?á He met his wife of 52 years, Diane and they married in 1959.?á He worked in the flooring business which led to his own ambition of opening Southern Flooring in 1959.?á He retired from the business in the 1970?ÇÖs.?á After a short retirement he decided to begin a new venture as a restaurant owner and bought the Beef and Burgundy Restaurant.?á He then went back in the flooring business and soon opened Maddox Flooring.?á He was a member of the Ft. Myers Lions Club and the Lee County Pioneer Club.?á He had a passion for yard work and the outdoors.?á He loved to entertain his family and friends with his ?Ç£famous fabulous?Ç¥ barbeques.?á His specialty was ribs and sausage. ?áPreceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Carroll S. Maddox, Jr.; ?áHe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane Hammel;?á his son, Chip (Jenny) Maddox;?á his daughter, Celia (Kenny) Erickson;?á grandchildren, Shane Maddox, Melissa (Allen) Woodby, Emma Erickson and Clayton Erickson: a sister, Mary Darsch;?á nieces and nephews, Judy (Maddox) Oliver, Jill (Maddox) Sokoll, Jeffrey Maddox, Karen (Darsch) Kinser, Nancy (Darsch) Green, Bruce Darsch and David and Sarah Hammel;?á sisters-in-law, Cindy Leach and Teda Hammel;?á Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 5-7PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.?á Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 12 Noon in the funeral home.?á Entombment will follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.?á Online condolences may be made to the family at : www.fortmyersmemorial.com.?á In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hope Hospice of Lee County.
