Charles Austin Scruggs' Obituary
Fort Myers, Florida – Charles Austin Scruggs, Jr. (Charlie) 75 years of age, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at home.Charlie attended Miami Senior High School where he played on the varsity football team – Charlie was an offensive lineman and played the center position – – they were State of Florida back-to-back Champions. Additionally, he played for two years for the University of Miami Hurricanes.Charlie and wife Bette moved to Fort Myers in 1966 where they became managers of the Tom’s Peanut franchise.Loved by all, Charlie is remembered by many as a coach of little league baseball and Pop Warner Football leading the Fort Myers Rebels to many remarkable seasons.Charlie and Bette celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 5, 2016 with many friends and family.He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Austin Scruggs, Sr. and the former Katherine Magill and beloved son, Charles Austin Scruggs, III ‘Bubba.’Charlie leaves behind his devoted wife, Bette (Wolff), a son, John and wife, Raeann of Fort Myers and a daughter, Lisa (Pfeiffer) and husband Scott of Cape Coral. Grandsons include Cameron, Sam and Bo and one granddaughter, Riley.A Visitation for Charles will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33917. At the conclusion of this Funeral Mass, friends and family will then proceed from the church to Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Charles will be laid to rest in the Resurrection Garden Section.
