Chin L. Wing's Obituary
Chin L. Wing, 96, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018 at Cypress Cove Healthpark, Fort Myers. Born in Canton, China on July 14, 1922, Chin immigrated to the U.S. in 1932 at age 10, via the S.S. Jefferson from China to reunite with his father who resided in Chicago, IL. Chin graduated from Senn High School in Chicago in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1941-1947.His tour of duty during WWII included naval training in the U.S. and Panama, in addition to combat in the Pacific Theater (the Solomon Islands and Borneo). He was a crew member on PT boats #105 and #319. Upon his return to civilian life, Chin married Ying in 1946 and attended the New York Trade School under the G.I. Bill, where he became a skilled electrician, plumber, carpenter and all-around mechanic. Chin was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Eastman Kodak and Agfa-Gevaert Film in Flushing, NY as well as North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.In 1986, Chin and Ying moved to Fort Myers to live near their son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Glenn Wing and Colleen (Coco). Chin worked as the building superintendent at Retina Consultants of SW Florida (an ophthalmology practice co-founded by his son) from 1986 until his retirement in 1999. For many years, Chin was a member of McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers.Chin is survived by his children, Glenn (Coco) and Barbara; his grandchildren, Carla (Chris), Matthew (Julie) and Jonathan; and great granddaughter, Clara. His wife of 55 years predeceased him in addition to his eldest daughter, Carol (who is survived by son-in-law Ted and his wife Mary Jo).Chin will be fondly remembered for his friendly demeanor, willingness to help others and ability to fix anything.
