Clara J. Dunn's Obituary
Clara J. Dunn, 93, a resident of Fort Myers since 1960, passed away, Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hope Hospice House of Cape Coral, FL. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Myers – now CityGate Ministries of Fort Myers. Clara volunteered on Mondays in the church and served as a greeter on Sundays. She kept herself busy playing bridge with her friends, working as a realtor with Drum Realty and volunteering at Lee Memorial Hospital as a “Pink Lady”. She had a true gift for the game of golf and played regularly until recent illness. Clara had an exceptional “short” game and her knack for finding greens made her highly sought-after to play in scrambles. She was a long time member of the Fort Myers Country Club where she won her Club Championship twice: first in 1968 and again in 1980. She knew the rules of golf and served as Marshall in several tournaments. She was born April 3, 1921 in Nash County, NC to the late George A. Leonard, Sr. and Nora Frye Leonard. The last of her 5 siblings, she was preceded in death by her 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William A. Dunn (2003). She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, William J. Dunn; her grandson, William J. Fluharty; a step-grandson, Chris Hebert and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held 11am-12:30pm with Funeral Services at 12:30pm Saturday, July 5, 2014 at CityGate Ministries 1735 Jackson St. Fort Myers, FL 33901. Burial will follow in the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to CityGate Ministries 1735 Jackson St., Fort Myers, FL 33901 or Hope Hospice 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
