Claude William Blackington's Obituary
Claude William Blackington, 72, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away Thursday, November 9,2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He grew up in East Hartford, CT and lived in Tolland CT for 30 years before moving to Fort Myers in 1996.Claude was born November 14, 1944 in Hartford CT the beloved son of the late Walter Henry and Eva Mary Blackington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1962-1968. He worked as a Psychiatric Technician at the Institute of Living in Hartford for 28 years. After moving to Florida, he pursued his passion of antiques and collectibles. He reached out to help others in many ways, and also volunteered for the Lee County Interfaith Caregivers for several years. He was an active participant at the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ.Claude leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 49 years, Sandra Blackington; their children Kenneth Scott Blackington and his son Keenan Andrew of Mansfield, CT; Kevin Andrew Blackington of Vernon, CT; David Eric Blackington of Seattle; and a loving cousin Carol Skanning and her husband Eric of Waltham MA.A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17th at 2pm at the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ, 8210 College Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33919. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ, or give the gift of life, by donating blood in Claude’s honor at your local blood bank or Red Cross center.Online condolences and memories may be shared on his tribute page at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.
