Aunt Corinne. I could write a novel on all my memories of her. She was very much a part of my life, especially during my childhood, adolescent and teen years. She spoiled me rotten! As a young girl she would send me packages thru the mail. My mom would say “look what Aunt Corinne sent you!” I would open the package and there would be an entire set of Avon ‘Miss Lollipop” spray perfume and “Pretty Peach” toiletries….this was the 1960’s. I liked Aunt Corinne’s gifts! It was an exciting time full of anticipation! In the late 1960’s my sister and I spent the entire summer in Maryland with the Jolin family (Ft. George Meade). That was an incredible summer. Don’t know how Aunt Corinne survived taking care of 4 boys and 2 girls but she did! She taught me how to play Yatzee! And she did not like to lose! We would play for hours, eating cinnamon pop tarts with peanut butter on them, yum! And she also made the best fried chicken! Snoopy, their pet dog, liked the smell of it too. I remember going berry picking in the woods with Paul, Ron & Louise and coming home, placing the berries in the bathroom sink and soaking them because they had to be clean to eat. Aunt Corinne did not appreciate the berry stains in the sink! You kids! She would say. And every night that summer there was the usual ritual. She would tuck us into bed…once she left the room and went down stairs, we would start jumping around and playing. She would yell ‘ you kids better go to sleep or I’m coming up there!!!!!” and she meant business. The 1970’s were the ‘Ledyard CT” years. Going to church together on Sundays, the Jolin family and the Gagnon family. and then to Burger Chef for lunch afterwards. There were many, many Sunday dinners together…and after the dishes were done…going into Aunt Corinne’s living room, with all the beautiful French provincial furniture, laying on the rug by the fireplace just talking girl talk. The Florida years were a lot of fun. Visiting the shell factory, Christmas at Busch Gardens and visiting the Cote family in Tampa. I could go on and on but I’ll stop now. Wonderful times. Wonderful memories. Aunt Corinne I love you. I will always remember you. Thank you for being a part of my life. Thank you for being my godmother and my confirmation sponsor. Thank you for being there, always. Love your niece, Mary Corinne Gagnon Ramos.
