D. Richard Barnhart's Obituary
D. Richard Barnhart of Fort Myers, Florida passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on Saturday, July 30, 2022 following some recent health setbacks. He was 96 years old.
Mr. Barnhart was born in Elyria, Ohio on July 6, 1926, the proud son to Ruth (Standen) and Leal J. Barnhart Sr. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy who was awarded a Victory Medal for his combat service in the Pacific Theatre. Following the War, Mr. Barnhart became a Real Estate Broker and was thereafter associated with many notable land developments in Southwest Florida including the planning and construction of the City of Cape Coral and Upper Captiva Island.
A Visitation for Mr. Barnhart will take place on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 12:30 - 1:30 PM inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Family and friends will offer reflections and eulogize Mr. Barnhart's well-lived life at 1:30 PM. At the conclusion of this period of remembrance, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Mr. Barnhart will receive Military Honors from the United States Navy following which he will be laid to rest inside the Prayer Garden.
