Daniel Craig Borders' Obituary
Daniel Craig Borders of Cape Coral, Florida passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 with his loving family by his side following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64 years old.Dan is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy (Jacobs). He is survived by his father Hickman; his wife Denise (Handlin) and his children; daughter Jamie (Matt), sons Matt (Corrine), Michael (Kristine), Sean (Tamara); grandchildren Dylan, Vance, Kindal, and Kalvin and his sister Star (Kerry).Dan was a graduate of Brecksville High School in Ohio. In his spare time he coached pewee football and raced cars. He spent time at Kent State University but realized he had a passion for building and he joined the family business. When he moved to Florida he obtained his Contractors License and ran his own business. He was also an avid boater. He enjoyed being on the water and served as commodore and fleet captain of the Point Yacht Club. Dan loved the water so much he took classes to become a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer. In later years he became a Trustee at the Cape Coral Fraternal Order of Eagles.Dan always had a smile on his face and kindness in his heart. His biggest accomplishment was his family. He loved everyone so much and never could get enough pictures or time with them.A Memorial Service for Dan will be celebrated at 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2015 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received by the family at the funeral home for two hours preceding the ceremony beginning at 10:30 AM. Immediately following the conclusion of these services, beginning at 2:00 PM, all are welcome to attend a Memorial Reception in Dan’s honor to be held at the Cape Coral Eagles, Aerie No. 3957, 4647 SE 9th Place Cape Coral, Florida 33904, (239) 549-8477.In lieu of flowers the family requests that you instead make a donation in Dan’s memory to either the South Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 4575 Via Royale, Fort Myers, Florida 33919, (239) 936-1113 or to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa, P.O.
