Daniel Francis Clifford's Obituary
Clifford, Daniel Francis, 87, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away to be with our Lord on August 17, 2017. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on September 13, 1929. During his life he was active as an usher in the Catholic Church, as a Boy Scout Leader for his sons’ troop, and as a fund-raising member of the Parents’ Guild. For seven years he was in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve, based out of the Grosse Ile Station. He saw no active duty but reported in one weekend per month and for a two-week training cruise annually. He was proudly self-employed as a small business contractor doing work in concrete cutting, excavating and sewer cleaning. He was a member and one-time president of the G.A.Y.M.A.C. (Get Acquainted Young, Marry a Catholic) Club for young, single Catholics where he met his wife, Beverly. He was also active in such organizations as the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Equity. He moved from Detroit, Michigan to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1980. He was a devoted father who loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his two sons, Allan of Redford Township, MI, and Charles (Melba) of Garden City, MI; three daughters, Elaine Szczesniak (Arthur) of Chandler, AZ; Francine Papner (Dennis) of Ft. Myers, FL; and, Gloria Vaughn (Michael) of Smyrna, GA; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; and a sister, Mary Ann D’Onofrio of Lexington, KY; along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Cecilia (Levan) Clifford, an infant brother, Charles Henry, Jr., and his wife of 37 years, Beverly Ann (Birzensky) Clifford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33907. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM till – 2:00 PM Tuesday at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
