Darrell Arthur "Doc" Smith's Obituary
Darrell Arthur Smith of Estero, Florida and also of Kankakee, Illinois, better known simply as "Doc" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 1, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Darrell was born in Illinois on May 9, 1938, the proud son to Hazel (Marshall) and Arthur Smith. He was the Owner and Operator of a construction contracting company for many years in Illinois before retiring and later spending part the colder weather months in Florida. He was an avid outdoorsman who really enjoyed experiencing nature at its best through fishing and hunting.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Anna L. (Boyd) Smith; daughters Lori Bertsche (Rod), Elizabeth Hammond and Shelby Bivens (Chad); grandchildren Bailey Kemp, Jake Bertsche, Blake Bounds and Taylor Tolbert (Cody) and great-granddaughter Bella Binkley. Darrell also leaves behind his sister Shirley Hudson, a large extended family and a great many others who were proud to call him a friend. Sadly, he was preceded in passing by his parents, brothers Alan Smith and Steve Smith and sister Bonnie O'Brien. Darrell will be warmly remembered and fondly missed by all he knew.
Immediate funeral ceremonies are private. Arrangements for Darrell's final care have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
