David Anderson's Obituary
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of David Anderson, 94, of Fort Myers, Florida.
David is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Lyn Kaake and her husband Michael of New Hampshire, along with his son, Bart Anderson and his wife Megan of Sydney, Australia. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua and Aiden. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Christine, his parents Lucile and Raymond, and his sister, Mary Lou.
David was born in Pittsfield Massachusetts to Lucile and Raymond Anderson. After graduating from high school, in 1948 he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his Naval career David was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a certified airplane mechanic, along with several other bases in the States. He often spoke proudly of his time in the Navy and enjoyed sharing stories with all who crossed his path about his military adventures. Following his deployment he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Boston University where he received his Associates Degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. While living
in Boston he met the love of his life, his wife, Christine.
Christine and David settled in Ansonia Connecticut, and spent many happy years there raising their children. Both David and Christine were very active in the Ansonia Congregational Church Choir among other committees and clubs. David worked at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporationand frequently shared how much he enjoyed his work throughout the years, imparting the lesson to his grandchildren that if you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life. David was a talented pianist and loved listening to and playing classical music. He also played the organ and would often play at the church in Ansonia when needed. After retiring from Sikorsky, he and Christine began traveling the country in their motor home and enjoyed exploring new places and meeting new people everywhere they went. Christine and David eventually settled in the Heritage Palms community in Fort Myers, Florida, where they attended Covenant Presbyterian Church. David was very involved with the church choir for many years, and also enjoyed golfing, making two hole-in-one’s during his time there. In his later years, he and Christine moved to the Cypress Cove community where they found many meaningful friendships.
David’s caring, thoughtful spirit and warm sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. During the last several years of his life, he was frequently quoted saying, “If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing”, a statement that his family and friends will long be comforted by. A service of interment will be held in New Hampshire at a later date.
