David J. Calamici's Obituary
David J. Calamici was born on May 30, 1920 in Gioisa Marea, Sicily. He died peacefully on February 20, 2018, of natural causes.Dave immigrated to Milwaukee, WI, in 1929 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1939-1943. He proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force in World War II. The consummate professional, he worked as a purchasing agent for NESCO until he transferred to St. Louis, MO, to became Purchasing Manager for Knapp-Monarch, after which he accepted a promotion as Director of Purchases for the Singer Corporation in Red Bud, IL.Dave was married to Betty (Lade), who passed away at age 33. His second marriage of 48 years was to the love of his life, Jean (Dewberry), and upon retirement, they moved to sunny Ft. Myers, FL. Dave’s passion was basketball, where he excelled in both high school and college. Upon moving to Florida, Dave took up the bass and was an avid tennis player.He is survived by his daughters Barbara Senn, Patti (Kevin) Ortyl and Laurie Calamici, his step-son Dale (Sharon) Dewberry and step-daughter Sheryn Deis, his sister Tina Burns, his grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents Mary and James Calaminici, his sister Mary Antionette (Carl) Serio, brother-in-law Ben Burns, son-in-law Leo Senn, stepson Jim Dewberry and sisters-in-law Pat (Harold) Dute and Barbara (Bill) Hall, in addition to aunts, uncles and good friends.The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale College Parkway for their compassionate care, and particularly Ronda Thomas for her dedicated caring and compassion over the last eight years.A Memorial Service for David will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2018 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for one hour preceding this service beginning at 12:00 Noon also inside the funeral home chapel.
