David Alan Childs Sr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Alan Childs, Sr., who entered his eternal Heavenly home on July 10, 2025.
Born on January 25, 1957, in Ashtabula, Ohio, but growing up in Tampa, FL and spending all his adult years in Fort Myers, David was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a man of great integrity, known for his strength, humor, and unyielding love for his family.
Throughout his life, David worked tirelessly, always putting the needs of others before his own. He enjoyed a proud career in grocery management and a fun retirement job at Norman Love and will be remembered for his dedication, work ethic, and the way he made everyone feel valued.
David was passionate about Jesus, serving in a variety of capacities at church from a young age. He found joy in spending time with his family and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, like hunting, sleeping in his tree stand, fishing, bird watching, and boating. His love for people was contagious, and he shared that passion with everyone around him. He taught those closest to him the importance of laughter.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Childs, his children, Anita Zegers (Brian) and David Childs, Jr., his grandchildren, Calissa, Duncan, Luella, Elias, and Finnegan, as well as countless friends and family members whose lives he touched in ways words can scarcely describe. His legacy will live on in the memories he leaves behind and the love he so freely gave.
A memorial service will be held at New Hope Presbyterian, 10051 Plantation Rd., Fort Myers, FL on July 25, 2025, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation.
