David Shaw Kerr's Obituary
David Shaw Kerr, 93, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in Fort Myers, Florida, 6 days before his 94th birthday. He was born in Kilmarnock Scotland the eldest of 8 children to Helen and William Kerr (deceased).David was a World War II British Royal Navy Veteran. After his discharge from the Navy, he went to work for ICI in Kilmarnock as an Industrial Chemist. He was transferred to Wheaton, IL in August 1973 where he worked for Nalco Chemical Company. In 1981, he was transferred to Aruba where he and his wife Mayme enjoyed a few years living in the Caribbean sun. In 1984, they moved to Coral Springs, Florida where they lived for several years. When David retired in 1989 they became members at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida. Among his many interests were soccer, reading, golf, music (specifically playing his harmonica) and traveling. He was a friend to all, a great husband, father and a much-loved papa.David is survived by his wife of 70 years Mayme, 3 children Iain (Susie) Marie Therese (Larry) and David (Cindy), 9 grandchildren: Richard (Katharine), Ross (Erin), Melissa (John), James (Nancy), Heather (Kenny), Jessica (Scott), Clay (Lisa), Patrick (Lindsey), and Karrie (Kenn) along with 14 great grandchildren: Hailee, Charlie, Sam, Liam, Iain, Sienna, Avery, Cameron, Brooklyn, Katelyn, Leeland, Alec, Matthew and Zachary.A Memorial Service for David will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. At the conclusion of this ceremony, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where David’s urn will be greeted by the sound of bagpipes prior to being laid to rest inside the Field of Honor. Immediately following committal of his urn, a celebration of life for David will be held at Fiddlesticks Country Club, 15391 Canongate Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33912, (239) 768-1111, lunch will be served.The family would like to thank Arden Courts of Fort Myers for their many years of care, and Hope Hospice for their care in the last weeks of his life.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a Go Fund Me campaign setup in David’s honor. All proceeds from this campaign will be donated in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
